The Apollo Automation R PRO-1 PoE mmWave Multisensor (LD2450 and additional LD2412 add-on option) is our most advanced presence sensor. Designed for power, precision, and reliability, the R PRO-1 is a compact PoE mmWave sensor built for high-accuracy motion detection and environmental monitoring in smart homes and commercial buildings.

This versatile sensor supports true PoE (802.3 compliant) and USB-C power, and includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling flexible installation and seamless smart home integration. Its small form factor combined with PoE or USB-C power options makes the R PRO-1 ideal for quick deployments in a wall or ceiling.

Equipped with optional support for the SCD40 (true NDIR CO₂), the R PRO-1 transforms into a powerful all-in-one indoor environmental monitor.

The device proudly carries the Made for ESPHome badge, ensuring full compatibility and easy integration with the ESPHome ecosystem and Home Assistant. It will ship with a Wi-Fi firmware that can easily be changed to PoE in the device dashboard.

The base sensor includes the LD2450, which provides true multi-zone motion tracking with defined zones in its field of view. The optional LD2412 which works in addition to the LD2450 excels in still presence detection, allowing accurate sensing of seated or resting individuals. Together, these two mmWave sensors work in tandem to deliver comprehensive, real-time occupancy data.

Like all Apollo products, the R PRO-1 is fully local, open-source, and requires no cloud subscription. It is a top-tier choice for anyone seeking a privacy-focused, local-first motion and environmental sensor.

As with many sensors, heat can affect the optional temperature and humidity readings, requiring significant calibration offsets. CO₂ measurements may be skewed when the sensor is recessed in walls or ceilings. Although we originally did not plan to include these additional sensors due to such challenges, feedback from the Home Assistant and smart home communities encouraged us to offer these options for users who want enhanced environmental monitoring.

Ceiling Mount

Use mmWave radar to instantly detect motion and automatically turn on the lights when someone enters a room. Thanks to its excellent ability to detect stillness, mmWave also keeps the lights on while someone is seated or resting. This is ideal for offices, bedrooms, and living areas.

Place the mmWave sensor under a bed to detect presence during sleep, enabling powerful morning and sleep automations.

The built-in RGB LED is perfect for visual alerts. Turn it green for trash night or blue when mail arrives in the mailbox.

The onboard piezo buzzer provides clear sound notifications. Use it to beep when CO₂ levels are high, when the front door opens, or for fun effects like sound alerts and party tricks.

The UV sensor lets you monitor sunlight coming through windows, while the LUX sensor allows smart lighting automations that only activate when the room is dark.

Dual mmWave Compatibility: LD2412 and LD2450

The R PRO-1 supports both the LD2412 and LD2450 mmWave radar modules:

• LD2412 (Optional) delivers high-accuracy still presence detection, ideal for seated or sleeping individuals.

• LD2450 enables multi-zone motion tracking, allowing you to identify precise movement and location across zones.

You can combine both modules to create a hybrid smart presence sensor capable of advanced occupancy detection in real time.

Smart Environmental Sensing Features

In addition to presence tracking, the R PRO-1 also functions as a robust environmental monitoring sensor, including:

• LTR390 for ambient lux and UV sensing

• Two addressable RGB LEDs for visual notifications and automation feedback

• Piezo buzzer for audio alerts

• Bluetooth support for tracking and Improv Wi-Fi provisioning

Optional Mezzanine Expansion Board:

This sensor is something I’ve wanted for years. If you yearn for wired (power AND data) and for something that will mount in a normal looking enclosure (nothing sticking out of the wall), this is for you. I have them in junction boxes that do high and low voltage next to each other, and you can’t even really tell they are there. The only negative is that I now want to run ethernet to bizarre locations in the house!

PRO-1 PoE mmWave Multisensor with Ceiling mount

I ordered the PRO-1 PoE mmWave Multisensor with Ceiling Mount and CO₂ Sensor.

1. With the Apollo ceiling mount, I do not believe the CO₂ sensor will provide any meaningful measurements. The mount is completely isolated from the room environment. I would say the same applies to temperature and humidity measurements.

2. One of the biggest challenges with ceiling-mounted mmWave sensors in US homes is vibration and false positives. Before I cut a hole in my ceiling, I would like some assurance that vibration will not be an issue
3. The quality of the ceiling mount is very poor. Modules that come with sensors from AliExpress are at least ten times higher in quality, which is surprising

Two times the radar

What if an MTR-1 and MSR-2 had a baby….this is the answer. With the R Pro-1 poe mmWave multi sensor you get the best of both in one package. While it does come with a nice case and stand you have the option of ordering an in ceiling mount or in wall mount to take advantage of the POE that’s built into it. I ordered the optional LD2412 as I wanted to have both but at $5 extra it’s a no brainer.

Setup in Home Assistant was easy as is with all Apollo products. Now I’m able to keep track of someone that’s perfectly still but in the room as well as multiple people (up to 3) in the room. You can also order the co2 sensor, best if at the same time, to track that although having it in the ceiling or wall would affect that part. Overall I do not regret my purchase and am looking forward to adding more in the future.
