The PLT-1B does not include a battery or charger due to shipping constraints. Users will need to source their own rechargeable 18650 for the battery version and a charger. Battery life is estimated at 6 months based on a quality rechargeable 18650 and the default sleep / wake settings.

The PLT-1 is an indoor plant multisensor that measures soil moisture, air temperature, humidity, LUX, and UV. It also features an onboard piezo buzzer and addressable RGB LED. Soil temperature can be measured using the optional temperature probe add-on. The sensor comes in a battery (B) and non-battery version, with the non-battery version being significantly smaller.

The PLT-1 uses a capacitive soil moisture sensor, which offers much better accuracy and durability compared to resistive sensors. Additionally, the ground contact portion is protected with a conformal coating, ensuring longevity and resistance to environmental factors.

  • Automated Watering: With its capacitive soil moisture sensor, you can set up automations to water plants only when moisture levels drop below a certain threshold.

  • Temperature & Humidity Management: Track air temperature and humidity with the AHT20-F sensor, adjusting indoor climate controls (like fans, heaters, or humidifiers) to maintain ideal growing conditions.
  • Soil Temperature Monitoring: Use the optional waterproof soil temperature probe to monitor and control soil warmth for temperature-sensitive plants, especially in colder months.
  • Visual & Audio Alerts: The RGB LED can be programmed for visual notifications, such as turning red when soil is dry or green when conditions are optimal. The piezo buzzer can alert you if immediate action is needed.

Update times

Sometimes the moisture updates are not consistent. I've set the sensor update to 3h, but the "last updated" status indicates 9h sometimes.

Works great with home assistant

Does everything it says it does. Zero issues since adding to my automations. Have 4 (one for each room/zone) to estimate plant water levels. My plants thank you

Does not work

My sensor is not working. I have purchased 3 different batteries and 2 different chargers and my sensor keeps saying battery low.

The plant sensor specifically requires a rechargeable 18650 battery with a minimum of 3.7V. If you’re still seeing a “battery low” message even with the correct battery type, we’re happy to exchange the sensor for you.

PS: The battery version still works when powered via USB-C if you'd like to monitor your plant that way until we can resolve this for you.

Love the product and its functionality!

Finally, a data-driven way to maintain my plants! I purchased the USB-powered version and have deployed them with my indoor plants. Managing them via Home Assistant with the PLT-1 LEDs set to turn red when a plant needs watering (this LED is something my wife loves as it's much easier than looking up a dashboard).
