1. How many Homey Pro do I need in my home?
One home, one Homey Pro. That's all you need to control an entire home. Everyone, both family members and guests, can have their own unique Homey accounts and get access to the home based on permissions set by the owner. If you want to extend the range of Homey Pro, for instance to reach Infrared, 433MHz RF, Zigbee and Z-Wave devices in remote rooms, you can use a Homey Bridge as a ‘satellite’ for your Homey Pro.
2. Can I see how the Homey app works before purchasing Homey Pro?
Yes, you can. Just download the Homey app from the App Store or Google Play and create a free account. You can add cloud-connected devices to that account (like Sonos or Philips Hue bulbs via the Hue bridge) and see how Homey’s control and automation works. If the app works for you, you can consider switching to Homey Pro. 🙂
3. Why would I choose Homey Pro instead of Homey Bridge?
Homey Pro and Homey Bridge are both hubs that use the Homey app. This means the main user interfaces on mobile and web are the same. There are some key differences though. You can decide for yourself if they are worth the price difference for your situation:
1) Homey Pro does not need a subscription. Homey Bridge uses the cloud-based Homey environment which requires Homey Premium to connect more than 5 devices.
2) Homey Pro runs locally, so it’s not dependent on the internet to make a Z-Wave sensor switch a Zigbee bulb.
3) Next to Official Homey Apps, Homey Pro also runs Community-built ones. This makes it compatible with more devices.
4) Homey Pro features Matter and Thread, and has the latest chips for Zigbee and Z-Wave.
5) Homey Pro features experiments, like SSH access, virtual devices and ‘Apple’.
