Saved the beef!

We get a 1/2 cow each year from a local farmer and get it diced up into many different shapes. That beef lasts us about a year. We keep the beef in a deep freezer in our basement. Because of the value of the beef we need to ensure that the freezer is always working.

This is where the temperature probe came in clutch. I have it setup with Home Assistant with alarms and messages sent when the temperature is out of range for 20 minutes.

We had picked up our 1/2 cow the previous month. Over $1,500 worth of beef.

One Sunday afternoon the alarm goes off both on the sensor and my phone. The temperature has been out of range for no apparent reason. I go down to the basement check everything out. I find that the compressor isn’t turning on and cooling the freezer.

We had enough time to run to the closest big box store that had a similar sized deep freezer. We purchased it and got it down in the basement with more than enough time to save over $1,500 in frozen beef.

I now have 2 temperature sensors now. One for the deep freezer and one in our standard refrigerator/ freezer. This sensor is well worth it!

Fish tank temperature monitor

Hi, Apollo automation have made the first fish tank temperature monitor that I could find that was built for many purposes.

I have been happy with the results and am intrigued with their other devices also for the different functions they can improve my smart home.

Many thanks

Too Easy...

I was able to get this configured into Home Assistant with ease. I used the magnet add-on to attach it to my chest freezer and used the thin probe to insert into freezer itself.

When should we expect a dual probe version of this? I could see a dual probe being used in a smoker or oven, one for ambient and another for the protein.

Simple design that works

Very simple and useful products. Really like the option of both battery or plug in options. Still new to the esphome platform. Updating the documentation to add consistency would be great.

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear you find the probe useful and appreciate the flexibility of battery and plug in options.

You mentioned adding consistency to the documentation. Could you expand on what specifically you think could be improved? We are always looking for ways to make things clearer and more user friendly.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Best,
