Description

We are excited to introduce the Apollo MSR-2 sensor, a updated version of our popular MSR-1, developed with your feedback. The MSR-2 builds on the foundation of the MSR-1, incorporating several incremental upgrades to enhance performance and usability.

What’s New?

• Compact Design: The MSR-2 comes in a smaller form factor, making it easier to integrate into your projects and living spaces without compromising functionality.

• Additional Expansion Slot: We've added an extra expansion slot on the back, this allows new accessories like a back facing USB port for clean installations.

• Updated Sensors: We’ve changed the pressure sensor to the DPS310 for improved accuracy. Please note, the base MSR-2 will only include pressure and temperature, humidity readings from the BME280 on such small boards were difficult to configure. However, humidity sensing can still be added through the optional CO2 sensor module.

For MSR-1 Users: The MSR-2 is designed as an incremental update to incorporate your feedback and is not a major upgrade from the MSR-1. Both sensors will continue to be supported, and updates will be provided as part of our commitment to all our users.

Use Cases

Use the mmWave to instantly detect when someone walks into the room and turn on the lights. Since mmWave is so good at still detection (detecting you sitting very still), you can also keep the lights on while you are in the room.

The mmWave can also be placed under your bed to determine if someone is in the bed or not. This can make for great morning or alarm automations.

The RGB led is great for notifications. Trash night? Turn the LED green. Mail in the mailbox? Turn the LED blue.

The piezo buzzer is great for notifications you don't want to miss (also good for party tricks playing songs). Has your CO2 level risen to very high levels? Beep the sensor to let you know to open a window. Did your front door just open? Beep once as a notification.

Use the UV sensor to let you know how much sun is coming through the window. Or use the LUX sensor to only turn on the lights if it is dark in the room.

The optional CO2 sensor is very eye opening. Many people do not know the air in their office or bedroom reaches CO2 levels that have an affect on you. From poor sleep at night, drowsyness in the office, and brain fog can all be caused by high CO2. This sensor will let you know if your levels are getting too high and you need to turn on the air circulation or open a window.

Details

mmWave Radar Sensor (HLK-ld2410b)

  • 1 Target tracking
  • Very good still detection
  • Very good tuning capability
  • Ability to tune out false positives

LUX and UV Sensor (LTR-390UV)

Temperature  / Pressure Sensor (DPS310)

Provides accurate readings of temperature, and pressure. The pressure enhances the readings from the CO2 sensor. Note: The ESP32-C3 in constant WiFi connection generates significant heat; you might need to adjust the offset based on your setup and the temperature/humidity won't be as good as a dedicated sensor with less heat build up.

C02 Sensor (Optional SCD-40)

  • True CO2 sensing

Bluetooth Tracker(ESP32-C3-Mini) - YAML Config Required

Track Bluetooth devices in your house, letting you know which devices are closest to the sensor. You will need to know the MAC of the Bluetooth devices you want to track.

  • Find your phone if you left it in the office or the bedroom.
  • Know who just walked into the room.
  • Track a beacon attached to your dog's collar.

RGB Pixel

  • RGB neopixel

Piezo Buzzer

Exceeded expectations

After watching several Youtube reviews, I purchased the MSR-2. It arrived in a timely manner.
As a brand new Home Assistant user, I was able to install and begin using the MSR-2 right away.
When I did have some questions, Apollo support responded quickly and with a lot of details making it easy to use their info.
I will buy this and other Apollo products again.

MSR-2 Review

Amazing product out of the box. I do live in a townhome, so it did require a bit of tweaking. The engineering mode made it easy to view the gate energy, and change the number of gates the sensor was using based on the room size. Once this was set, the sensor worked flawlessly to only detect movement within the room, and keep the lights on even with the slightest of movements. Will be purchasing more in the future!

Poor built quality and not reliable for presence detection

I bought the MSR 2 bundle with the co2 sensor thinking I was getting a perfect sensor ..

Well after waiting over a month for the delivery , I was excited on setting this sensor up as many people has recommended Apollo sensors , unfortunately my experience with this sensor wasn’t that good , a lot of tweaking to tune the sensor properly which at the end didn’t work as expected .

Despite of following the tutorial that Apollo has on how to tune the sensor , after being in touch with support trying to figure out why the sensor couldn’t detect people sitting less than 2 mts away from the sensor while sleeping , after having multiple false positives ,even getting a new mmWave sensor ( LD2410b) as the Apollo team said that the sensor could be the issue . Well After all that I gave up on this presence sensor .

Probably other people will find the sensor very accurate but in my case for a small bedroom in which I just wanted to detect someone sleeping on the bed , this sensor has failed its purpose ..

I ended up ordering a second Athom presence sensor , a very reliable sensor , simple to set up and accurate to detect someone sleeping in front of it , with no false positives at all , the built of the Athom sensor is perfect and high quality and the price is even better , at just 29$ US dollars , it literally took 3 days to arrive here in Australia , it’s a sensor to set up and forget about it because it just works .

Apollo is a great company , don’t get me wrong but in my opinion the sensors are way too expensive and the built quality isn’t great, the 3D printing is horrible, very low quality , for a sensor over 100 bucks you would expect a high quality built and a reliable sensor , in my case the msr2 will only be used for co2 detection ..

Sorry Apollo I had to share this , I hope this feedback help you to improve , the sensors seems great but maybe the presence sensors need more work .

Thank you for sharing your experience, and there’s absolutely no need to apologize! We’re a community-driven company, and your feedback helps us improve. It sounds like your experience was less than ideal, which isn’t typical for our sensors/company. Regarding the delivery, a month is uncommon unless it’s an international order with the most economical (slowest and cheapest) shipping option selected. We offer multiple shipping options and some are faster with delivery times of 2-5 days. We have EU distributors to help with shipping and recently partnered with Smart Home Australia to ship our sensors to customers in that region to greatly reduce shipping times and cost. We are based in the USA and shipping here only takes a few days.
The LD2410B in our MSR-2 uses engineering mode for fine-tuning to fit different environments. While the default settings work well for most users, some situations require a bit of tweaking. We’re still actively assisting you through support, and we haven’t given up on you. We’re always here to help. If the issue can’t be resolved, we offer exchanges or refunds.
Most users find our sensor to be accurate and reliable, though we did have a batch of LD2410Bs that caused issues. I personally build and test every sensor, but on rare occasions, one might slip through. Rest assured, we always make it right.
Thank you for your kind words about our company. We’re members of the community, working with and for the community to create better sensors. As for the pricing, the MSR-2 with CO2 is priced at $55, with the base MSR-2 at $35, and not $100 as mentioned.
We appreciate your feedback and are always here to help!

HAS It All

Excellent MMwave sensor, native Home Assistant discovery, exposes all you need and more, comes with case, criminally low-cost - exactly what I would build except Apollo built it for me. Beats Aqara and Linptech on every front.
