How It Works

Attach the Apollo Breakout Module to your ESPHome C6 Board with one of the kit's FPC ribbon cables (either 14-pin port works, top or bottom). Because the module has no fixed sensor, you pick the component that matches whatever you connect in the ESPHome Device Builder. For I2C sensors, set SCL to pin 0 and SDA to pin 1 and turn on the pullups. For a DS18B20 probe on the 1-Wire port, add the One Wire component on GPIO6 with a Dallas temperature sensor. Connectors and Specs

  • Connection: FPC ribbon cable to the ESPHome C6 Board (either 14-pin FPC port)
  • Shared I2C bus (SCL on GPIO0, SDA on GPIO1) across five connectors: STEMMA QT / Qwiic (3.3V), STEMMA (5V, 4-pin), Grove, a SEN6x port for Sensirion SEN6x air quality sensors, and a 3.5mm jack for an optional SHT20 temperature and humidity probe
  • 1-Wire port (data on GPIO6) for DS18B20 temperature probes
  • 3-pin STEMMA (5V) general-purpose port: GPIO6, 5V, and GND
  • 2x6 GPIO header: power, UART (TX and RX), and spare GPIOs, for standard jumper wires
  • Power: 3.3V on the ESP32-C6's controlled rail by default (off during sleep to save battery). A solder jumper (J5) switches it to always-on 3.3V for advanced builds
  • Software: ESPHome Device Builder, with every sensor, switch, and light in the ESPHome component index supported

Open source and local

The Apollo Breakout Module is open hardware with no fixed function: wire up what you want, keep your data local, and avoid vendor lock-in. It runs on ESPHome and works with Home Assistant, with no cloud, no account, and no subscription. Designed and built in-house by Apollo Automation in Versailles, Kentucky.
